Inversion, the Subject of the Dream is the Dreamer

Inversion – The Subject of the Dream is the Dreamer was inspired by Toni Morrison’s book “Playing in the Dark. Whiteness and the Literary Imagination” (1992). In my reaction to the work Carmen by Aura Rosenberg and Harmony Korine from the series “who am I, what am I, where am I?”, I make use of the characteristics of 35 mm film, showing light areas dark and dark areas light. With this move – against the reproduction of Blackfacing as in the work of Rosenberg and Korine, which is neither a practice from the past nor only existing in the US -, I am aiming at focussing on a category, that due to its said normalcy isn‘t focussed that often: whiteness.
